Zoetrope (animation) appears when you pull the trigger when wearing a VR-HMD, or when you click on the screen when viewing in a browser.
This work is media art. It is expressed by reconstructing a zoetrope, the origin of visual media, inside a VR-HMD, using a method that establishes the media within the media.
AI-generated information has made us feel as if we are being told the truth about an unreal object or event, AI chat has misled us with sentences that seem real, and image-generating AI has made us question what is real by delicately depicting scenes that do not exist, people who do not exist, and so on. AI-generated images have won awards in art competitions, and are strongly shaking up the human sensibility. In the year 2023, people are beginning to realize that AI is going to change our society. However, the changes that AI will bring about in our world have only just begun, and the commotion that is occurring now is only a warning bell before the big changes. The main bell has not yet rung. The information that AI continues to generate is still modest. No matter how many images are generated one after another, they pass in front of our eyes and each one seems to have no significant meaning. However, the flow created by the large number of images forms a picture and gives us meaning with a clear movement. This work expresses this current situation as a motif.
